Early Roads. Strong Communities.
Built around 1800, the West Gate Toll House was part of the Columbia Turnpike, one of New York State's earliest private toll roads. This vital route connected the farming communities of Columbia County and western Massachusetts to the busy Hudson River ports in Hudson, where goods were shipped south to New York City and beyond.
